Tate Modern - The Starr Auditorium

This year’s venue, the Starr Auditorium, was a cinema stage, and, sunk in front of this notional stage, a narrow strip of no-mans-land, reminiscent of an orchestra pit. We used this hybrid space to stage a play within a play. Crowding into the area in front of the screen, we posed for group photographs as live footage of us posing projected silently from a video camera onto the screen behind us. Our screened double was visible for the camera, a silent doppelganger of the event unfolding. We then moved into the seating area to take up our role as audience. Finally, we became a genuine audience, remaining seated to view a projection of the photographs that had just been taken.
